MLB Tickets - Fantasy: Potential Pickups
August 26, 2010 by Stub_Hub
Here are some players that could be solid pickups if available in your fantasy baseball league as of Aug. 9:
Brett Anderson, Starting Pitcher, Oakland Athletics: Anderson came into the 2010 season with big expectations. He fared very well in 2009 after being called up and was a popular fantasy sleeper for 2010, but injuries have prevented him from being much of a factor. He's now healthy and looked sharp against the Royals, holding Kansas City to just three hits over seven innings. He's got a lot of upside and could finish the season strong.
Jeremy Hellickson, Starting Pitcher, Tampa Bay Rays: Hellickson looked great in his spot start for the Rays last week, but he could be back in the bigs much sooner than expected. With both Wade Davis and Jeff Nieman potentially hurt, Hellickson's time could be now. He's got major potential.
Brandon Morrow, Starting Pitcher, Toronto Blue Jays: Morrow put on arguably the most impressive pitching display of the season on Aug. 8. He took a no-hitter into the ninth, fanning 17 batters in the process. Morrow has always had a ton of talent, but he seems to finally be mastering his control. He's been impressive in his last four starts, and could be turning a corner. Snatch him up if you need strikeouts.
Mike Minor, Starting Pitcher, Atlanta Braves: Minor is a top prospect that will make his major league debut on Aug. 9. He has a chance to stick in the bigs for good if he performs well, as he has this season on multiple minor league levels. He's a good prospective pickup.
J.J. Putz, Relief Pitcher, Chicago White Sox: Bobby Jenks is having some back problems and Putz is the guy who would take over closer duties if Jenks were to go on the disabled list. Putz has been lights out this season and could have major value if given the closer job.
Raul Ibanez, Outfield, Philadelphia Phillies: After a terribly slow start, Ibanez is finally hitting the ball. We've seen what he can do when he gets hot and he seems to be in line to play every day - at least until Shane Victorino returns.
Alexei Ramirez, Shortstop, Chicago White Sox: Ramirez is another guy that has come on after a slow start. He's actually one of the best fantasy shortstops when he's playing up to his potential, which he's doing right now.
Rajai Davis, Outfield, Oakland Athletics: Davis is a stolen base machine and has been hitting the ball much better as of late. If you need some speed, he's a great direction to go.
Pedro Alvarez, Third Base, Pittsburgh Pirates: Alvarez has come on after struggling to start his major league career. He's a top hitting talent, so taking a chance on him could end up being great for fantasy owners down the stretch.
Jason Kubel, Outfield, Minnesota Twins: Kubel had a great 2009 campaign and seems to be coming on late in 2010. He's been raising his average steadily and the power numbers are returning.
Bronson Arroyo, Starting Pitcher, Cincinnati Reds: Arroyo might not sell many MLB tickets, but he's been very good in his last seven starts, save one. He's not flashy, but he's been getting the job done.
