Ultraviolet radiation from daylight is actually invisible to the human eye but the damage it can cause is huge. The Switzerland of Greece? Yes, and much more. In the beginning of the 1990s, Unesco designated Evrytania as one of the five purest ecosystems on the planet, and we intend to keep it that way. After all, Evrytania is the highest prefecture in the country in terms of altitude, and lies on the southern end of the Pindos Mountains. More than half is covered by dense forests, in addition to a variety of natural phenomena and captivating villages. Set deep in the heart of the Greek mainland, Evrytania offers eco-tourism, relaxation and discovery during all four seasons.
Hidden in the very tall firs, in the center of Roumelis, the verdurous Evrytania charms with its natural beauties. Capital of the prefecture is Karpenisi, 293 km from Athens, a modern city built on the hillside of mountain Velouchios. 12 km from Karpenisi is located the Ski Resort of Velouchi, at "Diavolotopos", in an altitude of 1.840 m. At the same place functions the mountain refuge of Takis Flegas Tel.: 003022370 25130, 003022370 22 114 and also in Kaliakouda at the place "Lakkomata" functions the EOS Karpenisiou mountain refuge, Tel./fax: 003022370-23051.
Karpenissi is the capital of the prefecture and is the highest capital of the prefecture in Greece. It is built on a steep hillside and overlooking the magnificent Velouchi.
In the square next to the tree and the source of running water, you will see the Cathedral of Karpenissi, Holy Trinity.
