Hershey Bears Tickets - Bears Set Winning Record
March 1, 2010 by BrentWarnken
When it comes to dominant teams in the American Hockey League, the name at the top of the list right now is the Hershey Bears. Nearing the end of February, the Bears were easily on the top of the East Division of the Western Conference with a record of 43-11. That puts them a full 13 games ahead of the Albany River Rats, who have a record of 30-23. It also has them ahead of other division leaders. The Worchester Sharks lead the Atlantic Division with a record of 35-17, the Hamilton Bulldogs lead the North Division with a record of 36-14 and the Chicago Wolves lead the West Division with a record of 37-17.
The Bears added a new record to their long list of accomplishments on Feb. 21 when they topped the River Rats 5-3. Though the win was a victory in itself, it was a remarkable event because it gave them the AHL record for most consecutive wins. It was their 20th consecutive win, putting them ahead of the 1996-97 Philadelphia Phantoms, who previously held the record. The win came off of two goals by Francois Bouchard as well as goals by Andrew Gordon, Chris Bourque and Oskar Osala. Karl Alzner also stood out in the game with two assists.
The Bears have a lot to live up to this season, as they are coming off a Calder Cup win in the 2008-09 season. They clinched the championship by topping the Manitoba Moose 4-2 in the series. They are no strangers to Calder Cup play in recent seasons. They were the runners-up in the 2006-07 season as well as the champions in the 2005-06 season. Historically, they have been one of the most competitive teams in the league, winning a Calder Cup championship in every decade since the 1940s. Their winning ways have made Hershey Bears tickets top sellers, and tickets are available online.
During their 2005-06 Calder Cup championship, they were under the direction of head coach Bruce Boudreau. Boudreau returned to the Bears on Saturday, Feb. 27 to hold a book signing of his new memoir about his long career in the hockey world. The book is called Gabby: Confessions of a Hockey Lifer and he will be on hand to sign the book from 5:25-6:45 at the Bears game against the Bridgeport Sound Tigers. Boudreau is currently the coach for the Washington Capitals, the NHL affiliates of the Bears.
January gave some players on the Bears another reason to celebrate, as the 2010 Time Warner Cable AHL All-Star Classic took place in Portland Maine from Jan. 18-19. The team pits the best Canadian players in the league against the best U.S. players. Two Bears made the Canadian team, Andrew Gordon and Alexandre Giroux. The Bears also had two players on the U.S. team, Keith Aucoin and John Carlson. The team will be fighting for another chance at the Calder Cup in 2010, and their fans will be there to cheer them on every step of the way.
