Best Ways to Celebrate Superbowl Sunday

March 3, 2010 by mmedia2012

Superbowl Sunday is one of the biggest days of the year. It is not just a celebration of football but of sport. It is the culmination of something which began five weeks earlier. 16 gruelling matches decided which 12 team advance to the playoffs and from there they are whittled down to the final two.

Unlike the other three professional sports, football uses a best of one format to crown its champion. All of the others use a best of seven so unless there is a Game Seven you never know for sure when the final game is going to be. Such being the case, there is a sense of occasion with the Superbowl that the others sports don't have.

The date has been placed in the calendar months earlier. Any other events or occasions need to steer away from it for fear of no-one attending. Thus if you are picking a date to get married, wanting to have a bingo tournament or want to go away you'd be well advised to double check the dates beforehand. There have been many instances of tricky situations being created because a person had to go somewhere he or she didn't want to on Superbowl Sunday.

On the flipside, Superbowl parties are a huge part of Superbowl Sunday. People love to watch together and do so by organising a big bash. The key to organizing a successful Superbowl party is to be well-prepared. Your party is going to be affected by where you live because that will determine the time it is when the game gets underway. Assume you live on the East Coast of America where kickoff is 6.25pm.

So what you can do is invite everyone around at 4pm. You can have a barbeque going and plenty of snacks for people to eat. This means that by the time it's ready for the game to start everyone has had enough of schmoozing and is happy just to sit and watch the game. You want a huge television or projector that is going to allow everyone to watch the game and see it from where they are sitting. With so many people talking, also critical that you have a quality sound-system and speakers.

At most Superbowl parties, women aren't interested in the game. They may pop in to watch at the end if an exciting finish is happening but if the game is boring or a blowout you want to have something for them to do. Often boardgames are a good solution. Have games such as Scrabble, bingo and mah-jong set up in another room where they are free to enjoy themselves.

You also may have a bunch of kids at your Superbowl party who aren't interested in watching the game so you need to amuse them. One idea is to get a 12 or 13 year old to supervise them and come up with some games they can play. Alternately you can have some DVDs you put them in front of and they watch.
