Choosing The Right Camping Stove
September 2, 2010 by johnmce
When you are heading off on a camping trip to the woods your cooking apparatus is an important issue to consider. Your camping stove may be one, two or many rings and potentially have a built in grill. The size of it dictates not only how much food you are going to require during your trip but the recipes you chose to follow. This is because only one or two different types of food may be cooked at a time.
Small Size Hob
If your camping stove is small you have to give in to the fact that you may only have the most basic of meals whilst on your break such as beans, eggs or sausages. Although you can cook one thing after the other I would advise against this as no one likes cold baked beans!
Medium Size Hob
If you are fortunate enough to have a larger camping stove you can treat you and your fellow travellers to more of a treat. You also have the chance to cook two separate meals in case you are with young children so that you don't have to keep using water to wash up with.
Hob With Grill
Here is where you can get more creative with your camping stove. If you have access to fresh bread then you can make toast to go with baked beans or use it to cook meats on like a barbeque. Some more fully featured stoves are almost a substitute for a kitchen environment and you can experiment with cooking in the great outdoors whilst retaining a little bit of home comfort.
Bring Enough Supplies
The size of stove you will require also depends on the amount of people on your trip. Obviously the more people that need food the bigger your pots and pans have to be, you will also need more hobs. You could also consider the diets of those who you are camping with. If there is only two of you but you know you eat a lot then you should consider bringing a larger stove in order to facilitate your food requirements.
Safety Tips When Using Your Camping Stove
To remain safe on your trip avoid using any flammable products inside your tent. You should also keep children away from the flame to avoid any injury and make sure the stove is kept turned off when not in use. If you follow these simple rules you should have a safe and enjoyable camping trip.
